Soin var was structuzally damaged and corroded .
by exposure to intense heat. Test castings were made of
the breechface and firing pin. These test castings were
compared to the twenty-six .38 Special caliber cartridge
cases, obtained from the hallway closet at 1827 Golden
Gate Avenue, San Francisco, California (specimens 91013
cheosh 01033, Laboratory report PC-K7449 PR, dated .
tlay 28, 1974). Nothing was found to indicate that any of
these.cartridge cases were fired in.the K82 revolver.
.30-06 CALIBER RIFLE (Spscimen K65}
‘Specimen K65 is a .30-06 caliber Browning automatic
(autoloading) “Grade 1" rifle which bears Serial Number
13015mM72. The barrel of this specimen is rifled with four
lands and crooves, right twist, {land width=.050 inch, groove
width=.180 inch).
This rifle is very corroded. Parts of the receiver
have melted. Inasmuch as it was not feasible to test fire
this rifle, test castings were made of the firing pin and
breechface. It is noted that no .30-06 caliber cartridge
cases or .30 caliber bullets of the type usually loaded into
2390-06 caliber rifles have been previously submitted in
this case.
.244 REMINGTON CALIBER RIFLE (Specimen K68)
Specimen K68 is a .244 Remington caliber Remington
“Woodsmaster liodel 740” rifle. The barrel of specimen K6é8
is rifled with six lands and grooves, right twist, (land
width=.035 inch, groove wicéth=.090 inch). <- | a
This rifle is badly corroded. Further, the alloy
certs af ‘thse raceitvar have welisa ine sclicitied sronndé the
components container in the wacsivers. In view of the above,
it was not possible to ostain test bullets and cartridge cases
from the K68 rifle.

It is noted hat. .264 dentoston caliber and 6mn
amington cartridges can both be chambered and fired in .244
. Remington caliber rifles. A 6mm Remington cartridge of
Remington-Peters manufacture which had been loaded with a 100-
grain, Ccopper-jacketed, "soft point” bullet was previously
submitted in this case. This cartridge was recovered from the
1967 Oldsmobile bearing California License Number UGS~-045°
and was referred to as specimen Q985 in Laboratory report
PC~K3190.PR, dated Hay 10,:1974. -As previously reported, th
cartBidge bore no marks which indicated that it-had been
loaded into. or extract2d from a weapon.
