Specimen K73 is a 12-gauge Ithaca "Modei 37
Featherlight" slide~-action shotgun which bears Serial Number
371320357. The full choke barrel of this shotgun has been
shortened to a length of approximately 15 1/2 inches. The
muzzle end of the barrel is bulged . and torn and the magazine
tube is dented. ;

_— Specimens K74 through R77 are 1l2-gauge Mossberg
"Model 500” pump-action shotguns. Specimens K75 and K76 bear
‘Serial Numbers G036407 and D30709, respectively. No serial
numbers remain on the K74 and ‘K77 shotguns due to the melted
condition of their receivers. The full choke barrels of the
K74 through K77 shotguns, which were originally 28 and 30
inches, have been shortened to an average length of 15 3/4
inches. Although the receivers of the K75 and K?76 shotguns
did not melt, both have cracked near the front where the
_ tube magazines are inserted. .
Present in the molten receiver metal of specimens
K74 and K77 were a 12-gauge Remington-Peters shotsheli
casing head, a 12-gauge Winchester-Western shotshell head
and a .380 Auto Super Vel cartridge case. The condition of
the primer of these items suggested they had “cooked-of="
during exposure to intense heat.
Specimen K78 is a l2-gauge Mossberg "C-Lect-Choke"
26-inch shotgun barrel’ which had been shortened to a length
of 16 inches. Specimen K78 is the type of barrel utilized
on Model 500 Mossberg, shotguns. — \
Specimen K79 is a Winchester Model 1897, slide-action
shotgun which bears Serial Number E567744. The full choke
barvral of _specim on K79 has bean shortened to a length of
approximacely 16 1/4 inchas. This shotgun is corroded and the
barrel is “dented. .
_° No fired 12-gauge shotshell casings have been
previously submitted in this case. However, it is noted that
unfired 12-gauge Winchester-Western and Remington-Peters
shotshells were recovered from Apartment #6, 1827 Golden Gate
Avenue, San Francisco, California (specimens Q1621 through 01642,
Laboratory report PC~L0661 PR,“dated September 9, 1974). As
previously reported, these shotshells which had been opened
and had their shot removed, bore no marks of value for .
