that the "con men" were flocking to Hot Springs again, end said that he
expected to make considerable money this season. In relation thereto,
it may be noted that some of these persone interviewed, and quoted later
in this mamorandum, expressed the opinion that Informant 4 is probably
‘directing the activities of the confidence men in Hot Springs now since
Galatas has gone. {agent Mershali's cousin expressed this opinion)
While Informant A appeared to talk freely and evinced
a desire to see the instant case solved, it should te remembered that
he admittedly is a friend of Galatas. His overtures did not impress the
Agents as being in any manner sincere, and some doubt is felt as to
. Whether thia informant would materially aid in causing the apprehension
of Galatas.
At the Hamp-Billiams Company, Rot Springs, arkansas,
it was ascertained from L. S. Anderson that the Pord Coupe of Galatas was.
turned back to the company during the early part of November, 1933, by
Informant 4. The dealer, upon receiving the car, paid the balance due
the ¢. I. T. Company at Little Rock, arkansas. The car is question is
described on Page 15 of the report of Special agent W. F. Trainor, dated
at Kansas City, Missouri, December &, 1033. The records of the C. I. T.
Company at Little Rock reflect that the unpaid balance due on the car was
paid on November 7, 1935, by Hamp-Williams Company of Hot Springs in the
amount of $258.00. ;
As Galatas purchased his Cadillac Sedan, eiso de-
scribed in the report of agent Trainor heretofore mentioned, from the
Madison«Smith Company, Little Rock, arkansas, it was deemed advisable
to make inquiries there, in view of the atatenent by Informant A to.
the effect that said company was understood to now have the car.
A. F. Madieon of that company, when interviewed, stated that about
six weeks ago, a telephone call wus received at the Used Car Depart-
ment requesting that someone de sent to a restaurant acrose from the
police station for a Gadillac car.
John Harbour, an employee, went to the restaurant,
where he was met by a stranger. This man asked for a receipt for a
Cadillac Sefan parked outside, after telling Harbour to take the car
and place it in storage “until we let you know,*
