to the above details of the apprehension of Nash and their travels with hin

Upon the arrivel of the Missouri Pacific trein at Kanses
City, siesour; et the Union Station at 7:15 A.M. June 17th, Agente Lackey and -
Smith, accampenied by Mr. Reed, were met at the train by Special Agent in —
Charge Re Ee Vetterli and Special Agent Raymond J. Caffrey, of the Kansas City
Offiee of this Burean. Police Officers Hermanson and Grooms, of the Kansas
‘City, Missouri, Police Department, were also present to assist in escorting
Naeh from Kansas City to Leavenworth, Kansas, The officers escorted Nash
through the concourse of the Union Railroad Station at Kaneaa City upon —

Chevrolet Sedan of Special Agent Caffrey was parked.

Special Agent Caffrey had not at that instant gotten into the car, Caffrey
walked around the front of the car and was in the act of opening the left
door, while Messre Vetterli, Grooms and Hermanson stood in a close group
on the right side of the car (West). At that inatant there was a comand .
from ap uninown voice “Put ‘em up*®. Mr. Vetterli saw a man 15 feet diagonaliy
in front and to the right (Southwest) with @ machine gun trained on Hermanson,
Grooms and bim, erouched somewhat behind the rediator of another car. Almost .
at the instant the command “Put tem up* me given another voice said "Let
tem have it, end machine gun fire at the officers began.
There were killed by the assassins: Special Agent Raymond —
Je Caffrey; Chief of Police Otto Reed; Police Officers Grooms and Hermanson .
and prisoner Nash. Agent Lackey was severely wounded. Special Agent in
Charge Vetterli and Special Agent Frank Smith escaped without injury, ei though
Mr. Vetterli received a elight sting of a bullet in the arm ~
Ballistic analysis of the shells and dullete found in the
bodies of the deceased and wounded and picked up at the scene of the shooting
was made by Mr. Merle Gill, Forensic Ballistician of Kansas City, Missourle
