Microscope examinations indicate that two Thompson Sub-Machine gus, -
a «45 Colt*a Automatic Pistol, and another weapon using steel tall
bonrings, was used in the slayings. It 1s quite apparent that your
agent, Caffrey, was killed with a Ball bearing, while Lackey was shot
with a Thompson gun. Reid, Grooms and Nash were shot with # Thomp- .
son gun, while it ia apparent that Hermanson was shot with a buck-shet
gun. My ecnclusions are based upon careful microscope examinations of
the exhibite now in my keeping. Bullet holes in the two cara indicate
that the gun-fire cam e from the front and rear.
Bullets and cartridze cases from Floyd's gun, and from the Nebraska
Bank robbery, and from the North Kansas City bank robbery, as well as
. bullets fram our Detective Carpenter shooting, all failed to be identi-
fied as being connected with the weapons ueed in the Plaza shootings.
Test bullets fired by mo from the two .38 ealiber Coltts revolvers
taken from "“Fur* Sammons, failed to be identified as being connected |
with any local ahootings. Should you take any weapons connecting with
this case, it is absolutely important that test bullets be fired from —
the weapone by me in order that I can identify positively the compari=
son elugsa as we:l as the guns. Be sure that no one cleans the guas.*
