State of Tezas 2 ‘ : aa Wee
County of Galveston:
Before mo the undersigned, a Deyity United States
Clerk, personally appeared R. J, Harrell, who being duly sworn, Geposes
and states as follows:
My name is R. J. Harel, and I reside et 1908 Avenue
» Galveston, Texas. I am employed as an extra Messenger and Inspector
tor "the United Fruit Company, at Galveston. - —_ .
“On June 11, 1933, I met H. C. Howell in Houston, * ‘Texas. ,
He is employed as a Candy Maker at hia home, and sells home made candy,
He told me he was studying detective work under a wen in Houston, whose
neme I do not recall, I told Howll that I bad just come from Prescott,
Arizona, and a day or two before, I believe I said Friday, June 9, 1955,
while I was standing on the street corner in Prescott, a man came by me
and asked me to hold a package for awhile; that I etood at this corner
som time and the man did not return, and I came on to Galveston and ~
brought the peckage with ms. I told him I opened the package and found
an eutomatic gun in it. I do not believe that I said it was a sub-machine
gune I do not remember whether or not I said the gun was loaded. At the - .
time I told Howell about the man giving me a package, I told him itwas in -
Prescott, Arizona, for Howell knows that I occasionally make trips for © - .-.
_ the United Fruit Dispatch thru that section, however, I have not been in ~
‘Prescott, Ariana, for over a year. I merely told this tale about the mn ¢
giving me a package which proved to be a gun, just to excite Howell's
curiosity, and I wish to etate that there is no truth in =v otatement to
Howell, and it was told to him only as a joke. ;
No one has ever given me a subdemachine gun or any other
kind of a gum. I never sew a sub-machine gun, and do not know what one
would look like. I wish to state that in telling Howell this story about
the sub-machine gun or eutomatic gun, I had no intention of causing any .
trouble, and did not expect that he would tell the story to enyons, which = -
would result dn the Government making an investigation edout the matter. oe
T have read the above statement and same is true and
correc te . eo.
