1. SPRING TERM
The Spring Term for workers, shy 12-24, was atte.ded by
fourteen full time and an evusl number of part time students,
from five southern states, representing eizht international
unions. Weekend conferences on southern problems brousht eighty-
one additional persons to the school representing twenty-three H
national unions from all branches of labor. \
States represented by the fourteen full time students were
Tennessee, five; Louisiana, four; Alabara, three; Georgia md
Virginia, one each. The United Suzar tjorkers, Mine, Mill] and
Smelter Workers, and Brotherhood of Carpenters sent two students,
and the following organizations ecnt one student: United Fur-
niture Workers, United Construction Workers, Inland Boatmen's
Livision of the Wational Maritime Union, agricultural and Packe
ing House Workers (UCAPAWA), Sercen Office Workers Guild, Tex-
tile Workers Union of «america, american Student Union, and the
League of Younz Southerners.
The numbcr of union officials among the full time studantes
was unusually high, including on president, one vice-president,
one trustee, one financial sceretary, Four recording secretar~
ics, and two comitteemen. °
Courses included Worxers Problems taught by Mrles Horton;
Fublic Speaking by liary Lawrance; Perliam-ntery Law by Harry
Laster; Dramatics by Zilphia ay Horton; Union Publicity by
wery Lawrance; and Labor History by James Dowbrowski.
As in previous years the reguler staff wes supplomented
by Special iceturers that included John T. Jones, CIO lezisla-
tive representative and dircctor of Labor's Non-Pertisan Leaguo;
William Eaves, regional director, Wago and Hour Administration;
Hollis V. Reid, legislative representative of the Kailroad Bro-
therkoods and Chairmen of the Temusseu Commonwealth Federation:
Poul R. Christopher, executive sceretary of the CIO in Tennessee;
Lewis Jones, Amorican Federation of Teachers, Fisk University;
Wiiiian Denton, chairman Atlanta Industriel Unicn Council and
wonber of the United automobile Workers; Largeret Lemont, wri-
