The "Daily Worker," an east coast communist nevwse
pepor, issue of April 9, 1938, contained an article captioned
‘Appeel for Lifting of Arms Embargo on Spanish Government." _
The article stated that an appeal to tho democratic countrics
of the world and to the President of the United States te end
the Arms Embergo against Spain and give the Spanish pecple
"a fighting chance" had been made public tocay by the Amcerics:
Friends. of Spanish Democracy. One of the signers of the peti-g
ticn according to the article was Helen Keller. The American
Friends of Spanish Democracy was referred to by the Special
Committee on Un-American Activities, in its report dated a,
March 29, 19, as follows: Nin 1937-38 the Communist Party
threw itself whole-heartedly into the campaign for the support
of the Spanish Loyalist cause, rocruiting men and orravizine

. Tiere appeared in the "Daily Worker" issue of
October 6, 1938, an article captioned "Helen Koller Hails
Robert Ravon As Friends Plan To Honor Veteren." The article
stated that Robert Raven had just returned from a nation-wide
tour on behelf of the campaign Launched by the Friends of the
Abreham Lincoln Brigade to bring home the American Volu:teors
who fought in Spain. The articlo set forth the contonts of
