At approximately 6:05 pem. today Mr. William Ryan, Supervisor,
Washington Field Office, called the Bureau and spoke with Supervisor ——
R. Ay Collier and the writer. . He advised that office had been requested .
by the New York Field Division to conduct an extensive investigation, in- .
eluding checks of all hotels, in an effort to locate Hans Eisler for the dhe
Un-American Activities Committee.
You will recall that Hans Eisler is wanted by the Committee in
order that a subpoena may be served upon him for his appearance on Septem-
ber 23rd before the Committee. It has previously been reported that Hans
Eisler may have fled the country to Mexico. Newspaper stories concerning
this have been current for the past two days.

‘Mr. Ryan was advised that the Bureau is desirous of locating Hans
Eisler, but that he is not to be questioned or picked up, and that the Bureau
should te immediately advised as to his location in the event he is found.
Mr. Ryan was further informed that the Bureau files do not indicate any
particular place in Washington, D. C., where Hans Eisler has previously
stayed and it was suggested that a check of the leading hotels in Washington
be made, and that this matter be discussed with the appropriate Bureau
officials tomorrow to determine what additional investigation is desired.
Ur. Ryan stated the New York Office had advised that Hans Eisler ¢,
