ete TT BREARNAP wt 4 VEHICLES The general mode of transportation utilized by the members of the SLA was either rental cars or used vans. FALSE IDENTIFICATION ’ Members of the SLA have been known to obtain birth certificates of individuals who are deceased and also birth .certificates of individuals who are lecitimate living people. They primarily have used identification of living people which was stolen. The Harrises are known to obtain false driver’s licenses in fictitious names. HOUSING In the Fall of 1973, and up until approximately January, 1974, the SLA members resided in apartments and houses which were middle-income class areas and following the kidnaping of Patricia Hearst, they resided in extremely low-income areas in apartments and houses that were sometimes without water and electricity. They invariably either boarded up the windows or nailed Grapes or other material across the windows so that no light’ was permitted into the dwelling. They also, on many occasions, installed additional security locks. The houses were ccnerally without furniture and they utilized old Mattresses or sleeping bags. CLOTHING The members apparently attempted to dress ina quasi-military manner. The girls generalivy wore blue jeans ane peacoats or similar-type jackets and hiking boots. Upcen many occasions, they wore two sets of clothing. Most of tne SLA pads _ they abandoned contained wigs, indicating that the women could easily change hair color and styling. WEAPONS Our investigation indicates that the members of the SLA have practiced at at least one firearms range in the Berkeley area anc possessed automatic pistols, revolvers, sawed-off shotguns, and M-l carbines, which had been engineered so as to be capable of an extremely high cyclic rate of fire. When last seen, the Harrises and Patricia Hearst were known to have been in possession of at least two automatic carbines and handguns.
