(epee AeA key er ES Sc ye 7.65mm MAUSER- -RIFLE:-ArgentineMauser $1. BARREL: 297) TWIST: 1-10 23 CASES:. Reformed ..30-06 6.1“: PRIMERS: CCl 200, CCl: 250 "4 The 7.65 Beigian Mauser is a military cartridge which has been ‘used by Belgium, Ecuador, Argen- tina, Turkey, and Peru. The primi- tive Model 1891 Mauser action carries its cartridges in a single row magazine forward of the trig- ggr guard. The action is an odd looking one which has been im- ported in large numbers as vari- ous governments have got rid of obsolete calibers. There were two military load- ings. As used by Belgium and Ecvador, a 215 gr. bullet was given a muzzle velocity of 2,034 fps. As used. by Turkey, Argentina, and Peru, a 154 gr. bullet was given a muzzle velocity of 2,788 fps. Velonity figures for both bullet weights were taken in 30” barreis and would be very much fess in 24” barrels. The cartridge is similar in size to the .300 Savage or the .308 but it cannot be loaded to pres- sures as high because of the rela- tively weak Model 91 action which should not be used with pressures much over 40,000 p.s.i. The bullet is oversize .30, or .311" — 313” diameter. The .308" 100° gr. “Plinker” boitet can be used if the expander is changed to .307” diameter. The joads given bestow seem satisfactory but all of them should be used with circumspection, start- ing at the minimum load given and working up slowly. The 7.65 has never been popular as a hunting cartridge but should be adequate in a good rifle for deer, black bear, and similar game. 281 Lk CT eT a ek Tee ee aes Peet ALF ta
