_— ~ e oe -_— ' QO sat in the front passenger seat. He does not “now whether . tnat person was a male or female, and does not know whether - © or not the car doors were left open. Within a couple of minutes after the people had left the car at the latter stop location, BENENSON heard one or two bursts of rapid gunfire, possibly machine gunfire. After a pause of five or ten seconds, he heard two or three additional single shots. All shots sounded as if they came from the same approximate location. <A short time later, possibly just a matter of seconds, a number of people hurriedly “centered the car. BENENSON believed that three separate people flung themselves on top of him in the rear seat. At this approximate time someone sat on his head for awhile making it very difficult for BENENSON to breathe. Ue did not recali liearing the trunk open or close, and did not hear any noise in the trunk. He had the feeling that there were more people in the passenger compartment in the car than there had been prior to the stop. The people that entered the car were all breathing heavily. BENENSON noted that his "fear level" was extremely high at this point. He believed that he had possibly just heare gunfire from an “assassination”. The car drove away at a fairly normal speed. BENENSON has a vague recollection of hearing several shots in addition to those described above. However, he stated he was unable to Gescribe the number of shots or the time intervals between the shots. He stated he was unalle to recall hearing any ricocheting »wulicts. Iie could not recall any specific turns made by the car. As they drove away he could hear one voice say, "Don't wait, tney're following", or something to that effect. After a ride of approximately five minutes the car again came to a stop. BINENSON was aware of a great deal of noise outside the car wut cannot describe exactly what ne heard outside the car. Someone told BENENSON, “Make any noise and your dead", or something to that effect. BENENSON heard the people exit the car and close the doors. He recalled someone telling him prior to their departure, "Be cool" and "Tnanks brother". BENENSON iaid there for five or ten minutes and heard no noise except . for onc or two cars passing by. Believing his captors had * departed, ne spent another five or ten minutes working his gag and blindfold from his mouth and eyes by use of the arm rest in the rear seat. He succeeded in working both the blind- fold and the gag down around his neck. He realized it would take awnile for him to untie his hands and untie his wrists, as ’ Cn a 339° . - see 2 . t eee ke a ae LT < - Fe ge =: oe ae “ bcm ao * 7 ra , “s "ee et i * at? a I ale at ate ant re cn eet ae Pa : Stet ee ee , * mtg =a on te eo Swe mM tea™ The ee ee - - . ‘ft PS tome elt ae) F orn % a a oo " SME I ike Pen ghey Tiree a FN tet ee RE a ee er! et te Sears ett Reeser Oe ee
