UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION April 19, 1978 In Reply, Please Refer a” File No, RE: GEORGE JACKSON BRIGADE Reference is made to previous communications captioned as above dated January 4, 1978 from Seattle, Washington, and a communication from Portland, Oregon, captioned as above, dated March 1, 1978. George Jackson, a member of a group of. dissident prisoners termed the "Soledad ‘ Brothers" at Soledad State Prison, Cali- fornia, in 1970, was a prolific writer, who stated the U. S. Goverr’ent is "fascist" and should be resisted by "peoples urban- guerrilla activity". Jackson was incar- cerated at San Quentin Prison, California, when during a violent riot and attempted prison break, he ran into the prison yard and was shot and killed by a guard on August 11,¢1971. ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE GJB: Since the preparation of the above referenced communications, the following events have been either claimed or have been linked by investigation by and/or to directly the GJB: December 8, 1977, the Puget Sound National Bank, Northeast Tacoma Branch, 6220 - 29th N.E., Tacoma, Wash- ington, was robbed by two individuats. January 10, 1978, the Great Northern Savings and Loan, Westgate Branch, 5738 North 26th Street, Tacoma, Washington, was robbed by two individuals.
