‘Piles of the Atlanta Office révealed that on 6/6/62 Mrs. Martin Luther King, her husband, and other Negroeszattempted to enter the King's Inn restaurant Iocated in the Atlanta Cabana, Atlanta, for lunch. Admission was refused. Jay Sarno, part owner of the Atlanta Cabana invited the group to his office for lunch. 157-632-14 p.1 (109 | P . ‘Bureau files revealed that the wives of Negro leaders in Albany, Georgia, Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr.; Mrs. Raiph Abernathy, Mrs. W.G. Anderson and Mrs. ‘Wyatt Tee Waiker applied to City Manager Stephen Roos of Albany for permission to stage two parades,:a wives’ and mothers’ parade and a ministers! parade, on 8/10/62. Permission was refuse 157-6-2-616 p.1 (% This reference is a teletype dated 1/26/63 from Birmingham which set out information _pertaining to the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that went on in connection with the allegation that Martin Luther King, Jr., Was being held incommunicado in the Birmingham City Jail.« It was indicated that President Kennedy was” perturbed over the report that King had not been permitted to call his wife, Mrs. Martin Luther King, over the Easter Sunday. On Monday 4/15/63 King was permitted to call his wife, however, the conversation was restricted to personal matters. Attention was called to a UPI dispatch dated 4/15/63 at Atlanta which stated that Mrs. King reportedly telephoned President Kennedy, and the President to1d her that FBI Agents had talked to her husband in the Birmingham Jail on 4/14/63 and confirmed that he was all right. Birmingham Office advised that no Agents had. been in contact with 1 King since his incarceration. 1 -6-4-646 p.1-4 (3 Arrested for defiance of court order barring racial protests. SECRET
