RS Reports from Kansas City dated November 21, 1932, stete
, that a contingent of fifty hunger marchers was expected at Des
Moines, Iowa, that afternoon. It was further stated that hunger
marchers routed through Hansas City were expected to arrive
= November 26, and would continue the morning of November 27,
a augmented by the Kansas City contingent. The Unemployed Councils
of the United States of America, 799 Broedway, New York City, New
York, addressed a letter to the Mayor of Kansas City over the
signature of O. W. Penny as Secretary of the local council. in
this letter he stated in substance thet the western deleg=tion of
unemployed, aporoximating two or three hundred men, was expected
to arrive in Kansas City from California and points west of Kanscs
City on November 26, where they would be joined by the Kansas City
group and leave for Washington on November £7. This letter
requested that the mayor provide accommodations for the marchers.
These reports also indicate that a similer letter was written to
the Mayor of Des Moines, Iowa, requesting housing, feedins, and a
permit to seex funds, this reauest being cenied by the “Meyor and
the City Council, who threatened to "run them out of town in the
event any disturbance is created". The reports stste that a
contingent of fifty due te arrive in Nes Moines November 21 is
largely composed of recruits from South Dakota and Nebraska.
