to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college-or university. While such a degree

Response:
The FBI will waive the college degree requirernent for those who have
intelligence experience. We made thai decision because we did not want to
arificilly Lont our ability to hire experienced former military or law enforcement
mitelligence professionals who could bring great benefit to our intelligence
program, but might not possess a college degree. We at the FBI agree that a
college degree brings much to our intelligence program; we also believe
intelh gence experience brmgs much to our mtelligence program. Our introduction
of the waiver was designed to ensure we could balance experience with education.
We have hired approximately 75 analysts im this fiscal year, and have not yet
exercised a waiver.
14. Does the elimination of this requirement exacerbate the FBI's ongoing analytical legacy
problera across field offices, where many individuals not having a bachelor degree were
promidted into analytical positions?
Response:
No, the degree waiver is only for those individuals who have specific intelligence
experience and expertise. All new analysts will have either a degree or
demonstrated mtelligence expenence, and many new hires may have both The
new analysts will work with the FBI's expenenced analytical cadre, creating a
formidable team working to fulfil) the FB! s mission With respeet to the field
office infelhgence analyst workforce, the FBI is ina ume position, in
cemipansin with the rest of the USIC, to attract thease highly qualified candidates
throughout the country who de not wish ta move to the Washington, D.C.
