Also present/during the interview was Assistant
General Counsel, Battelle. After being adviged of the identities
of the intetviewing Agents and the purpose of the interview,
was presented with an AMERITHRAX; Major Cage-184 Non-disclosure
Agreement (NDA). After reviewing the document, [—__] signed the
NDA. At this point,[_]provided the following information:
[indicated that over the past few years scientists at
Battelle have isolated two different contaminants from Bacillus Dé
anthracis (Ba) spore preparations. One contaminant was determined bIC
to be Bacillus pumilus and the other was determined to be Bacillus
subtilis. These determinations were made using a 24 hour API
strip.[[ _|believes that both of these contaminates were purified
from the Ba and may still exist as frozen stocks at Battelle's
Building. stated that
In the course of reviewing documentation related to
Battelle's Ba Ames spore preparations labeled BAA177 at Battelle's
facility located at 1425 State Routé 142, West Jefferson, Ohio,
[]not iced a discrepancy betwg¢en Battelle's documentation and
an e-mail sent from[ to Dr. BRUCE IVINS at the U.S. Army
Medical Research Institute of Inffectious Diseases (USAMRIID).
Battelle's "Etiologic Agent ReceApt and Inventory Information
Sheet," for sample BAA177_ indicdtes that the sample was depleted on
5/6/04. An e-mail from[__ to IVINS suggests that Battelle was
working with BA177 in January of 2005. At approximately 3:30pm on
December 19, 2005,[__jwas asked about this discrepancy. SA
was not_present during this portion of the interview.

Battelle never actually determined if BAA177 was contaminated and
