Both observation and participation mst be accompanied by regular and
leisurely interpretation and thought. The importance of social scheduling, for
example, and the constant discussions of social standards must be placed in their
sociological context. The help of faculty and staff members, particularly those’
from the Dean of Students' organization, may be sought. It may be helpful for
the foreign grantee to enroll in courses in educational sociology or otuer sub=
jects which can help him to gain a broader perspective. :
Throughout the year, the project administrators will have to assess whether
the aims of the project are being accomplished. If the foreign grantee seens
dissatisfied, or is acquiring misconceptions about student life, the project
administrators should not hesitate to seek ‘the help of the National Director’ and
‘of their ow faculty or staff in reviewing the program. At the end of the year,
the administrators will have some responsibility for a fundamental evaluation
designed to improve the operations of the project.
