SUBJECT:
VIETNAM MORATORIUM COMMITTEE
INTERNAL SECURITY - MISCELLANEOUS
The attached letter was received from Congressman.John C
Culver,
(D) Iowa, House of Representatives with whom we have had
cordial relations in the past. Culver enclosed a clipping from a.
local newspaper regarding FBI inquiry at Simpson College,
Indianola, Iowa, concerning a Vietnam War protest rally supporting.
the October Moratorium 10/15/69.
Culver states he shares the concern of responsible
tudents and their parents who have participated in these activi.
ies as well as those who are concerned'about potential civil
liberties implications of such investigations. He requested a
full report on the nature and extent of these investigations.
The inquiry at Simpson College was made by the Omaha
Office in connection with a demonstration at the college; however,
the individual contacted was not an established source and he in
turn advised news media. The Special Agent involved has been
censured for his poor judgment in this matter. A copy of memorandum..
C. D. Brennan to W. C. Sullivan dated 10/23/69 covering this incident
is attached.
