MEIR D. KAHANE The March 14, l972, issue of the "State Press" a newspaper published Tuesday through Friday of each week during the school year by the Associated Students, Asu,. Tempe, contained an advertisement on page 7 announcing that Rabbi Meir Kahane, founder and Ieader of the militant Jewish Defense League (JDL), would speak on March 15, 1972, at the Great Hall of Law at Asu. The advertisement stated "...you may not agree with his methods but hear him speak and make up your own mind!" This talk was "sponsored by Hillel, the Union of Jewish Students and the Asu Dept. of Sociology." No admission was to be charged and if any information was desired,acall could be piaced to the Hillel Union, telephone number' 966-537l. The JDL, founded in 1968, is composed primarily of young Jewish militants who consider themselves as defenders of "Jewish Rights". Demonstrations attempting to dramatize the Jewish problem in Russia and similar demonstrations against Arab establishments have often resulted in violence. Rabbi Meir Kahane, founder and National Director, has stated pubiicly on many occasions that violence is sometimes necessary to accomplish the aims of the JDL. The March 15, l972, issue of the'State Press" contained an article captioned "5o Plan Protest". It first reported that Rabbi Meir Kahane, head of JDL, was to speak'at 8:15 p.m. on March 15, 1972.y His topic was to be "Survival of Jewish People." XBakrAnassan, spokesman for the Organization of Arab Students and Mikeymilin, of would protest at the speech. Plans for the protest called for a march to the Great Hall and the establishment of. picketlines. Representatives of the two groups plan to attend the speech and ask Kahane questions.
