He recalled that in about 1934, EARL BROWDER, the head of the CP, stated at CP Headquarters that OWBNW LATTIMORE was to be given the assignment of the organization of a campaign which was to sell the United States on the fact that the Chinese Communists were agrarian reformers, and further commended LETTIMORE for having brought so many communist writers into the Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR). Mr. BUDENZ said that he felt certain that LATTIMORE was a communist.
