NY 100-162445 he Law Commune was organised in 1969 at NYC to provide free legal defense for individuals engaged in radical activities, and to organize lawyers with radical sym- pathies into & movement career. C. Arrests - United States Court of Appeals (UOCA), osVentn Circuit, ago, Illinois, made available a copy of a 121 page opinion of the USCA issued the previous day, which in summary, reversed the substantive Anti-Riot Law convictions of five defendants, including subject, in the trial in United States District Court (USDC), Chicago, Illinois, from September 24, 1969 - February 18, 1970, commonly referred to as the Conspiracy Seven Trial. The USCA remanded the convictions to USDC, Chicago, for a new trial if the Government so0 desired. As grounds for reversal, the court cited the failure of the presiding trial judge to inquire into the possible effect of pre-trial publicity upon prospective jurors, out of court communications between the trial judge and the jury during its deliberation, and the demeanor of the trial judge and prosecutor, described by the USCA as deprecatory and antago- nistic toward defense counsel and defendants during the trial. The "Chicago Sun-Times," a daily Chicago newspaper, edition of January 5, 1973, Page 4, carried an article entitled, "Justice Department Drops Chicago Seven Niot Case." The article reflected that Attorney General RICHARD KLEINDIENST had announced at a January 4, 1973 press conference in Washington, D.C., that the Justice Department would not retry the five convicted defendants in the Conspiracy Seven Anti-Riot Law case in Chicago.
