Re: SURREPTITIOUS ENTRIES
DETAILS:
In connection with its continuing investigation
into investigative matters involving surreptitious entry,
the Civil Rights Division forwarded on 4/21/76 a request
for certain material and access to review a voluminous
number of files.
Category A of the 4/21/76 request appears to
relate almost exclusively to Arab terrorist matters. The
attached copy of the request notes the subject of files we
have been able to identify to date.
Category B of the request concerns the SWP, its
members, candidates, and officials. The request does not
specify the reason as to why the files are being requested
for review. It is presumed that the Department has some
indications that the individuals named were past targets
of surreptitious entries.

propose to attempt to clarify this question with Mr. Gardner
prior to taking the requested action.
New York, by attached nitel, is being alerted to
the requests in Questions 1, 2, and 4, Category C. With re-
spect to Question 3, we initiated a survey of all field
offices in a communication of 4/13/76. When the results are
