Re: Civil Rights Division Criminal
Investigation of Surreptitious Vntries
Therefore, Special agents EE c Qi ave requested
that they be permitted to travel to New York City in an
official business status at Government expense, for the
purpose of reviewing files maintainad there, these files
being otherwise unavailable to them.
It would appear to the Snecial Agent in Charade,
Detroit Division, that such travel should be authorized
in the interest of justice and so that all of the facts
surrounding these allegations can be brought to light. Due
to the varied investigative assignments and cases that
Agents work during the span of a five year period, it
is understandable that recollections become clouded and
uncertain. Prior to these Agents answering any inquiries
that the Government might have concerning the allegations
against them, they should be permitted to review the files
in the New York Division pertaining to their investigative
activities while assigned there. Special Agents, currently
assigned to the Mew York Division and against whom similar
allegations have been made, have been afforded the opportunity
to review these files. In addition, at least one other
fvecial Agent has been permitted to travel at Covernmeant
expense from one field division to another for the purncose
of reviewing files to refresh his recollection in this matter.
Vo dany Special Agants and this same opportunity
to refresh their recollection woul’ he grossly unfair and
unjust.
The Special Agent in Charee, Detroit Division,
strongly recommends that Special Agents an dP ><
authorized to travel at Government expense from Detroit,
Michigan, to New York City, for the vurpose of reviewing
files maintained Ly the New York Division.
