enclosed for us a list of twenty-six itens which plaintiffs
requested from the FBI in Giscovery in this civil action.
Docw.ients requested! incluced those pertaining to any
"intelligence gathering burqlarics" directed adainst
plaintiffs. Note that in accerdance with FD SI policy we at
FRI Hoadquarters believed that decunments concerning break-ins
had been destroyed in field offices following review by
Bureau Inspectors at each annual ficla office insnection.

learned as a result of the General Acccunting Office's in-
ouiry of our New Yorh Office thal information cenceerning eight
tarqets of break-ins were located in “SAC Folders" in tho
New York Office. Personnel in the Research Section handling
requests of the Nenartment‘'s Civil “Nights Division concerning
FBI break-ins were unaware that recuests had been made in the
SYP civil action for information concerning “intellicence

Internal Security - 2 Section of our Intelligence Hivision
assigned to work on the SP civil actien made general

Section advised personnel workine on the SP civil action of
the results of inquirics at our New York Office concerning
‘eight specific targets of break-ins. Personnel assidned to
work on the SUP civil action theorized that additional inforra-
tion relating to break-ins might be located in our New York
Office and felt that this possibility should be explored.

request for “burglary” cocuments, PRI Headquarters personnel
, then, for the first tine, canvassed all Fnt field offices in
an effort to lecate documents relating to any “intelligence
gathering huroqlarices” cirectec acainst plaintiffs. iew York
