between ann Jones, wife of Clarence Jones, and Stanley Levinson
(locality not given}. Jones remarked "it is this weekend for Harlem”.
She wanted Martin Luther King to know "what is brewing in New York.
Everybody was looking for somebody like Malcom X, but they would
settle for King. All the reat of the leaders from Stokley (Carmichael)
through Whitney (Young) were ‘for the birds’.

Bureau memo dated 8/28/67 revealed that Stanley Levison
and Clarénce Jones, advisers to Martin Luther King, Jr., recently
held a conference (locality not given) regarding future activities of
SCLC. Jones indicated that H. Rap Brown, leader of the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (100-439190), had been so won over
by the Progressive Labor Party, # pro-Chinese Marxist-Leninist group,
that he was not only useless but dangerous. Levison commented that
Brown's actions were due either to immaturity or to insecurity.
