Likewise they knew of no plans for reported regrouping or retraining. The Black Panther Party {BPP) is a black extremist organization started in Oakland, California, in December, 1966. It formerly advocated the use of guns and guerrilla tactics to bring about the overthrow of the United States Government. Since early 1971, it has preached a policy of "survival pending revolution." The “Los Angeles Times" of August 6, 1972, contained an interview of BPP leader Huey P. Newton, who claimed the BPP was very much alive with chapters “all over the country”. “No mention was made of any activity or interest outside the USA. i Recent issues of the Black Panther newspaper, as in the past, continued to refer to Party activities across the USA, but no mention has been made of any interest in affairs in Canada. | The chief thrust of the BPP at this period is in community political actions. Current issues of the Party newspaper always mention that Bobby Seale, Chairman of the BPP, is running for Mayor of Oakland, California, in April, 1973, and urge its readers to register to vote.
