eRe come Hi ad ord The AG's speech concluded the Fourth Judicial Conference ‘ at Roanoke on Saturday, 6/30. His talk concerned the work of the - Department of Justice and the need for a rule of law to uphold the osition of the U.S. as a nation where justice is done. In private || (conversations with many of the judges in attendance at this conference {|it was obvious that the Jia Bennett philosophy as to handling Federal law violators is continually being pushed. Several judges mentioned the speech given the night before py Senator Roman L. Hruska, who avored the indeterminate sentence procedure. ACTION TO BE TAKEN: \| While Assistant Director DeLoach has done some very effective work in countering this soft treatment approach to criminals in his appearances at two or three of the judicial conferences, it would nevertheless seem that we are going to have to continue to get our views across to counter the Bennett ] philosppny.
