Confitcential Informant of unknown reliability, advised
that a social event was held on 6-12-48 in Manchester, Con-
necticut, which was scheduled to be a social event, The in-
fornant stated that upon arrival at this social, however, it
Was apparent that the purpose of the affair was to raise money
for the Frogressive Citizens of Anerica. The informant steted
that the subject was a featured guest at this social and acdressed
the gathering although he seemed to be guarded in his remarks,
The informant stated that the subject stressed the need for
obtaining signatures to place the Progressive Citizens of America
candicates on the ballot.
the Progressive Citizens of America has been cited by the Cali~-
fornia Committee on Un-American Activities Reports 1947, p. 369,
and 1948, ». 354 as a "new and broscer Communist front for the —
entire United States" formed in September 1946 at the direction
of "Communist steering Committees" from the "Communist dominated
National Citizens Political Action Committee" and the Inde-
pendent Citizens Committee of the Arts, Sciences and Professions.
Confidential Informant of unknown reliability, advised that
the subject attended a Ménchester, Connecticut Rally of the
Peoples Farty of Connecticut (date not given) which was held
ina "well-to-do JewisH home in Manchester, Conneeticut.
According to the informant, the subject was a main sveeker and
re told the rally, composed of nerroes and whites, that the
Peoples Party of Connecticut was fighting for the case of the
negro. The informant stated thet a collection was taken up for
the Feoples Party of Connecticut after the subject's speech and
derge bills were received in the collection,
