Shortly before noon Sunday, Februery 18, 1934, acting Special agent in Charge L. B. Reed of Cherlotte, N. C. advised over long distance telephone es followe: Thet et 2:50 a.m., February 18th, at Raleigh, N. C., Chrysler Streight-8, Ii. C. tags 1098259 collided with e touriat sutomotile seriously injuring several occupsnts of the latter car; thet in the Veter vno automobile were riding @ man known ee Wie Ry Proctor slias Pick known to Chief of Police Berbour at Releigh, and e stranger wit! Proctor end thet Chief Esurbour hed reasons for believing this etranger might be Pretty Boy Floyd; thet Proctor end the unknown man thought to be Floyd hed flec from the scene of the eccident end had left /Raleigh immetieately in a Plymouth Coach, 1933 model automobile of Ted Saddler who works for the Levis Sporting Goods Company eat Raleigh, N. C.; thet thia Plymouth Coach bore N. C. license 369462, motor PD 13782; thet relatives of Saddler had just received a telegran from him sent from Petersbur¢e, Virginis and presumably Saddler hed hauled these men from Raleigh to Petersburg, Va. Immediately uvon receipt of this information, agents Levin end Sith were dispetched by automobile to Peteraburg end I personelly got in touch with Chief of Police TW. W. Jefferson of that city who hapoena to be a personel frienc of mine. Jefferson already had received full information as to thia by long dieatance from Chief of Police Berbour at Raleich and wes at work on the case. Flashes were placed-with Virginia and Marylend State Police end with the letropoliten Police Department of Washington, D- C. to pick up the above Plymouth Coach with all occupants end notify me. The neme of Pretty Boy Floyd was not used in vlacing these flashes but Chief Jefferson at Petersburg knew atout Floyd from information received from Fe Berner at Releteh.
