Recently after a-bani robbery athGoodland, Kansas,
on February &, 1924, a gun battle wes had between the bandits and
peace officers in that territory, Sheriff Libty of Ness County,
Kan.as, being wounded in the encounter.
One of the bandits has been identified from a
photorraph as James’ Ciark with aliases, Sutject of I 0 #1192. As a
result cf the encounter, altho none of the bancits were captured, a
1911 tiodel U. S&S, army Colt .45 calibre «utomitic was recovered with
the serial numbtsr thereon buffed off. The serial number has been
raised and is found te be No. 156 $31. Cur records of stolen
Government guns in this office fail to reflest any information
relztive to the above described automatic and hence, it is desired
that ecntect te had by you with the Crdnance Division cf the war
Derm.rtment in an endeavor to trece this gun, in view of its con-
néction with Jases Clark, above mentioned.
