On January 22, 1934, Mr. Cowley of the Drvte :
this office telephonically that a telegram had been received from 0
a man who signed his name as ; Gregory" at Durham, North Carolina, |
to the effect that he knew tha whereabouts of Pretty Boy Floyd. .
On January 23, 1954, Special agent W. S. McKinley, who was at
that time acti ng in my absence, telegraphed the Division setting
out a summary of the results of his interview with Gregory at.
Durhen, North Cerolina. Agent McKinley is now sick and confined ~
to a hospital in Charlotte, and the information contained herein-
after ia based upon ny interview with him of yesterday. .
he lives in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginie. He cleims to be
the son of R. C. Gregory, a Special Officer of the Norfolk-Southern
Reilway, and stated that he is enxious to assist in essarching for -
fea. arthur Floyd, Fugitive, Subject of Tdenti fication Order = —

Gregory, at which time Special Agent W. G. Elliott of this office
Was also present, Gregory seid and did many things which caused |
the Agents to believe conclusively that Gregory ia undoubtedly -
mentally unbalanced. For example, during the interview, which .
occurred in Gregory's room in the Washington Duke Hotel at
Durham, Gregory withdrew fran his overcoat pocket a No. 6 billiard
ball, and, holding the billiard ball high above his head, remarked
to the Agonts: "See thie; you can’t go wrong on me”, Gregory
also produced a gaudy belt, to which was attached an elaborate
buckle which epparently had been taken from a women'a coat, ani
made some insignificant remarks concerning the importance of the ©
buckle attached to the belt as though it hed sone valve asa
