Reference is made to our previous communications in
the confidential] metter with regard to the theft of approximately
400,000.00 worth of Liberty Bonds from the Lincoln National Bank.
at Lincoln, Nebraska, and the possibility of their recovery.

Please be advised that Special agent K. R. McIntire se-
cured from ki. Enory J. Smith, Room 724, First Nationel Bank Building, .
Chicago, Illinois, a list of all the securities which were stolen from
the Lincoln National Benk. It is to be observed that tr. smith acted
as counsel for the Lincoln National Bank at the time of thie theft.

The total amount of Government Bonds atolen fran the above
nentioned bank amounts to $39,050.00, of which, bir. smith advised Agent
MeIntire, sanething over $16, 000.00 has been recovered. ,

Photostatic copies of the list of stolen bonds heve been
made, one copy of which ia being forwarded herewith to the Division. °
This matter was discussed with Assistant ‘Director Harold
Nathan, while he wes in the Chicago office, and he advised that this
office should refrain from proceeding with the matter with regard to
the bonds, but also advised that efforts should be made to secure in-
formation, through Jamea Z. L. Hall, as to the identity of the machine
‘gunner in the Kanses City Massacre, In keeping with such suggestion,
Special Agent McIntire again commnicated with Mr. Hall, who advised
he will continue to meke discreet inquiry and will secure all informe
tion available with regard to the Kansas City Massacre. .
In view of the information obtained with regard to the
exact amount of Government Liberty Bonds which were stolen fram the
seid bank, this office will not pursue the bond matter further. It is
_ to be noted, however, that information was secured by Agent MeIntire =.
with: -pegerd to othtt criminal activities of parties who are involved - .
' in gang activities Swith Baird and Spangler. These violations cover
"Federal Laws and within the near future, it is anticipated thet infor-
mation will | ‘be. ‘turned over to the proper Federal agencies, providing
inetrustions’ te the! contrary are not received from the Division.
