Reference is made to your telephone message from Supervisor. a
Cowley, January 18, 1934, requesting that discreet investigation be mde --_
at the Arlington Hotel to ascertain the name of the party who addressed ~-.
& letter to Mrs. Le H.|Peydys-eare of Mrs. I.{McFadden, Le Roy, New York, ,
on the hotel station « In the message it’ also stated that popeibility
existed the letter may mve bean written by Subject Gaiatas.
The Arlington Hotel, 480 Ellis St.,is a family and transient
hotel, principally ths former, of fair reputation. ”
Upon receipt of message of reference, Agent EB. B. Montgomery
kept wetch on the hotel that night until past midnight, also the day of
the i9th. No one answering Subject's description was seen to enter or
leava the hotel,
Through aiplonatie {inquiry made among hotel men, it waa
ascertained that P. S. Clauzade, the proprietor was considered thoroughly
reliable. Conse ently, Agent BE. B. Montgomery secured the hotel
register; checked it for eny registration under Subject's true name or
aliases known to be used by him, also under the nates of Payd and McFadden,
going back to June, 19353. No registration waa found under any of these
names. According to the register, transient guests do not average three
a day. ; : . v
Mr. Clauzada, the proprietor, when shown the photograph of
Galatas, was unable to identify it as that of any guest, or anyone known
to him, or who had been seen about the hotel. At Agent's request, Mr.
Clauzade showed the photograph to his day clerk, also to his night clerk,
