call frai Chicago to Cadillac 9510, Detroit, it seemed impoasible that the iden-
tity of the persm to shan she talked could be established in any way other
-. than by directly approaching Jack Arenson, the night clerk, who was on duty
and who received the call, <Arrangauents were made whereby the Negro elevator | - =

“ and was interrogeted without hie having an opportunity to communicate with any |
one at the Royal Palm. He seamed quite cooperative and was evidently a colored
perec% of same integrity. He earplained that it wae quite unusual for him to
answer the telephone because of his duties on the elevator. He recalled the —
night of 10-20-33 and the serly morning of 10-21-33, but could recollect no
instance in wich he received a long distance telephone call fran Chicago or
os fron any other place. He could not identify the photograph of Miller or eny -
--of the other Subjects in this case as ever having been guests of the Hotels _.
He explained that while he recently went back to work et the Royal Palm on
10-15-35, he had worked there several tines before when the Hotel was manéged
by Mr. Rainey. He could recall no guest by the name of Hays or eny guest of ro
® suspicious character. It was learned fran him that the hotel is patronized
to aame extent by enployees and actare of the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
