KANSAS CITY bot. bese eee, etait tt Octoter 28, 1933, ‘ Director, Division cf Investigation, United States Department of Justice, fashington, D.C. Dear Sir: Kindly refer to letter to the Eansas City office from the Chicago office dated October 11, 1933, conteinizg information to the effect that Guajiinkler prior to his death made a ‘ statemept to the effect that he had purchased from Harvey°Bailey for £35,000} bonds valued at over $600,000, which apparently had been taken in a bank robbery at Lincoln, Nebraska, these bonde later having been returned to the Nebraska authorities by Winkler, in order to avoid prosecution. The Chicago letter suggests that the information be trane-. mitted to the proper State Officials in the State of Netraska. It is my opinion, especially at the present time, that the information contained in the letter from the Chicago office should not be furnished to the Nebraska authorities. I believe that the only result would be considerable publicity regarding Esiley. Bailey, altho en astute criminsl, must be regarded as a potential source of information regarding the Union Station Plaza Massacre case. I te- lieve that this Division should do nothing at the present time which | might antagonize hin. Accordingly, in view of the atove, the matter received from the Chicago office will not be furnished the Nebraska euthorities. trey ~- Very truly yours, sow YE . . EB, BE. CONROY OCT -30 1833 4.%.
