Director—2,
He aleo requested the history of Frark Nash, which I gave hin,
In fact, I furnished him considerable information on the ease, all of which,
however, has appeared in the Kansas City newsrspersa, prior to the time I
conversed with hir. Cooper.
I alao discussed with him the Barrow case, and gave him care.
tain newspaper clippings on this case, and I made an appointment for him to
eee Sheriff Bash of Kansas City. He also inquired as to the various rackets
which were being carried «m in Keneas City, and I discussed this situation
with him, However, I do not beliere that I gave him any information which
had not already been published, and which was not eammon knowledge. However,
regardless of this fact, it was specifically understood that no article would
be published by the "American Megazine* until his rough draft story hed bean
. submitted to the Division for camplete epproval. He advised me auch had deen
the practice in the past, ani wuld be followed out in the future. He also
*old me that the story would not appear in the magazine until December or
Jemury, a8 I recall.
Mr. Cooper aleo inquired as to conditions at Hot Springs, irke
ensas, end I advised him that Frank Nash was well knom there, and had many
frienis in that vicinity. He then stated that it appeared that if everyone
“wsed the long distance telephone calls as mich as thie particular gang had
done, the telerhone commny would mke a considerable profit, He seemed to
already have coneiderable informtion on this case, He was not shown the
}pivision file, and was not furnished any copies of any Division reports. We
lad rether a general diecussion regerding the Union Station case, with the
exception of the fact that we did not, of course, discuse just how good a
ease we had against any one individual, or as to what any of the witmessca
* would testify, but diecussed the generalities of the case.
The interview was had with Mr. Coopar on the strict understand-
ing, however, as was cited above, that the article in qwstion would be re-
Viewed by either the Director, personally, or Mr. Tolson, in Washington.
If there ie any further informtion you desire, please adviee
) PY
Respectfully,
: YE Vater
