Reference ie mde to a telephone call fran Mr, Tolson of
the Division today, requesting that a letter be sutmitted, air mil,
special delivery, am the substance of the conversation had with Mr.
Cooper, the writer for the "American Magazine”, who was recantly in
When Mr. Cooper arrived at Keneas City, he ealied at the
office, and requested information on the Osage country. I was not
particularly familiar with this subject, andhe told me he had been
to the "Star", Kansas City newspaper, and wanted to discuss the Union
Station case, together with local political angles in Kensasa City. He
advieed me that it was his desire to write an article, which would ez-
plain to the people of the country that their protection was, in reality,
in the hands of the Division of Investiget fon.
During my conversation with Mr. Cooper, he told me specifi-
cally that all articles that he wrote on the Division, and its work,
were first autmitted t the Division at Washington, where thay were
gone over by either the Director, personally, or Mr. Toleon, and any
information they 41d not desire in the articles wuld be stricken out.
Accordingly, I furnished him certain information on the
i Union Station ease, which had already appeared in the Kansas City news-
' papers. I remember Mr. Cocper asked specifically where the ham was
i - where Hiller bad lived, and I gave him the address. He also requested
————a the date of-the shooting, and I furnished him the date of June 17, 1933,
end I deseribed to him just what took place at the Unign Station, Eansas
City. He also inquired as to how the cohorts of Pra ab bad been
able to follow up his rarmoval from Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Kansas
City, and I advieed him the minute be was picked up at Hot Springe,
no doubt saneone had placed a lang dietance tolephone call. Thies in-
