w- Reference is made to telephonic conversation of July 22, 1933
between Mr. ¥. B. Hughes of the Bureau and the writer, in connection with ~~
the above case, and at which time Mr. Hughes advieed that information had
_ been received from the Prohibition Bureau as a result of correspondence
- with Prohibition Agent James M. Shields, Montgomery, Alabama, tint one.
Clarenceliiay, 500 Edgewood Street, F. 0. Box 306, Dothan, Alabama, @
liquor runner, possibly had information indicating that Ray and Floyd Bruce,
who also are liguor runners operating out of St. Louis, Missouri, might
have deen involved in the above mentioned case, or that they perhaps would
have information concerning it.
, Special Agent W. ZB. Miller went to Montgomery, Alabana on duly
22, 1935, where he interviewed Mr. James M. Shields, Special Agent in
Charge of the Montgomery office of the Prohibition Bureau, who at that
time advised that he had known Clarence May of Dothan, Alabama, for several
years, that May 19 a former bootlegger and racketeer, but in recent years
hag been an investigator for the State of Alabama, and while not holding
office at the present time has assisted Mr. Shields in several casea in
Dothan, Alabama and vicinity. Shields aleo said thet he had found May
to ‘De reliable.
Mr. Shields said that the only infomation that he has in
connection with this case is that on Tuesaday, July 18, 1935, Mr. May came
to his office, at which time the latter said that 1+ was hie opinion that
Ray and Floyd Bruce, two bootleggers who opsrate out of St. louis, Moe,
perhaps had infomation in connection with the Kansas City case, and that
if they themselves were not connected with it they undoubtedly had infor-
mation concerning it and possibly would reveal this informtion. .
