( ; July 7 1933. peetinne Mr.J.Edgar Hoover, director, Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Washington D.C. Dear sir: I have, just noticed where you have issued orders to arpest S - WilburYUnderhill and several others, Will say that I an quite sure thet Jou would rather have a man after them that knows them on eight than to have a man trying to catch tnem that does not know them, I know Floyd when I see and although I have never seen Underhill but one time am quite sure that ~ ! would recognize him on sight. It is not a hard matter to catch Floyd, he is fe just like a runaway child, -+he will leave for a while but he always comes back fe hone, I know his history from the time he first came to this county, I a furnished the imformation that almost got him caught on two different occassten and if the officers leading the parties of officers had not wasted so mich i8 time he would have been taken on both occassions, seems as though the larger portion of the officers around here want to be sure he is gone before they ¢ there. I worked on the sheriff's force here for about four years during the 4 field boom days, from 1925 to 1929 and did nothing but trail bank robbers and hijackers and believe I can truthfally say that I caught as many men single }; handed as any three men that was working on the force at the time and will *“# futher say that I a quite sure that Floyd would not have been able to make . headquaters around here like he has for the past two or years or so had he z been operating at that time, pee ae Now Mre Hoover I can catch Floyd and that other gang too if I can make *_ a satisfactory deal with you. They all have connections in and close around ¢ heré and it - would surely only be a matter of time until I could make the § # contact that would get the job done, tak sed mothing new to me catching suchi**®| Imen as these. Now as I said before Floyd,be 80 bard to capture, provided not; a soul on the outside of your office knows who is after him, if my being af } him would be unknown to anyone around here especially them I can get the {desired results, otherwise my services would be of no value to you, now you {will find that you will have to put men on his trail that are competent to jmake the arrest when they get him located, an undercover man that would have ito go and call for help and wait until they could get there wouj¢ be unsucceage iful, that is this is my best judgment on it kmowing his ways@,nhabits as I Gig Now I am enclosing a recommendation from the man that was sheriff of. thig), county at the time I was working and will futher refer you to Mr. Randal Pitg: who was county attorney at the same time, also to LeRoy Cooper who was assis. yi county attorney at the time and who now is Superior judge of this county, alts: to Roy Lewis also an assistant county attorney at the time and who now is la: |) clerk for one of the justices of our supreme court of this state, the addres g- of ali are Shawnee, with the exception of Roy Lewis who - supreme court Oklahoma city Okla. b2- AGA If you would like to have my services in the apprehention 2 wie PE I will assure you ttmt I would be glad to assist your office and will futhe ‘gay that I am quite sure that I can benifit you in a materialyyeyes i455. !
