WILLIAM JOHN GRANATA, Republican Committceman for the 27th Ward, maintains
an office at Room 705, 205 West Wacker Drive, at which place he conducts
Commissioner's hearings for the Industrial Commission of the State of J1li-

noise; On October 14, 1947, GRANATA was interviewed. At this tine he sbated
that he was not acquainted with any of the parolees. He stated that all he
. knew about them is what he had read in the newspapers. He indicated that he
knew nothing of the manner in wiich the parolees had secured their paroles
and had not been contacted at any time to use his influence in assisting any
of the parolees, He stated that it is true that he is the Republican Conuittee-
man for the 27th Vard but that as such he would not be in a position to be
of any material assistance to any of the parolees in a federal matter. Ue
states he is an attorney and has not handled over a dozen cases in his entire
career in the Federal Courts. As a result he is not too well acquainted with
any of the Federal officials or the Federal Courts. He stated it is for this
reasog that probably no one contacted him to use his influence as they knew
that he was in no positicn to be of any assistance. He emphatically disclaims
* wsing his influence to assist parolecs in any manner or for any purpose.
GRANATA stated that he rather resented being interviewed in view of the fact
that there were a nunber of malicious rumors circiwlating with respect to the
manner in which the 1946 election was hantled. Ue stated quite emphatically
that sypch rumors unquestionably resulted from the "Chicago Tribune" publicity
as well as from the imagination of their reporter JAMES DOHERTY. Jn this
connection he mentioned that on election day JAMES DOHENTY came out to the
27th Ward in a two-way radio car and appeared to be quite excited. GRANATA
stated that DOHERTY asked him to Manat into the car with him and whonever
it had “been ranore! th at “they ¥ were “going “to “do away with GRANATA or “possibly
only Kidnap him. GiiANATA indicated that he could take care of himself and
‘ suggested to DOHDNTY that he might accompany him, GRANATA, around the ward.
GRANATA appeared to be proud of his orpanization and wanted to show DO;MENTY
“how his organization handled an election. DOHERTY refused to join GRAMATA
and stated that he had to go to other twarmis where there was possible violences
“ GRANATA seemed to be quite incensed at DONERTY's actions and the apparent
