charging Towers with violation of the White Slave Traffic Act,
Title 18, Section 2421, in that he. transported Maria Novotny
from England to New York for the purpose of prostitution. A
Detainer was placed against Towers at the Manhattan House of
Detention. On 3/15/61, Towers was released by NYC authorities
on $5000 bail and was arraigned same date before U.S. Com-
missioner Earl E. Bishopp, Southern District of New York, at
which time bail was set at $5000 which was posted by Towers on
the same date,
On 4/12/61, Towers was indicted by the Grand Jury,
Southern District of New York,on five counts of the White
Slave Traffic Act, violation of title 18, Sections 2421 and
2422 and Title 8, Section 1328. The latter violation is the
unlawful importing of an alien into the U.S. for an immoral
purpose, Towers’ case was scheduled for 4/25/61 at which time
he could plead to the above charges.
On 4/25/61 Towers appeared before U.S. District Court
Judge Charles M. Metzner, SDNY, and Towers pleaded not guilty
