detectives contacted the answering service and left an assumed
name and telephone number with an extension at a hotel in NYC.
Novotny returned his call and advised that a prostitutien date
could be arranged for a minimum fee of $30. ‘The detective
was instructed to go to apt 4A at 140 Wst 55th St., NYC, between
11:30 and 12 o'clock on 3/3/61. Shortly after the detective
had entered the apt, Novotny had disrobed at which point he
called in two other detectives who arrested Novotny and also
arrested Towers who was also in the apt at that time. Towers
was charged with maintaining a disorderly house and Novotny
was charged with soliciting for the purposes of prostitution.
Towers was held on $10,000 bail and incarcerated in the
Manhattan House of Detention for lack of bail until his hearing
on 3/7/61. Novotny was released on $500 cash bail and had
indicated a desire to cooperate with authorities, ¥
On 3/6/61, Special Agents of the FBI attempted to interview
Towers at the Mannattan House of Detention but he refused to be
