tensively and can best be located through Mr. FULLERTON FULTON of the CIO
Regional Office in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. HINDiUARSH was active in the UM organization up wmtil 1930 or
1931, when he became inactive, and as a mtter of fact let his membership
lapse because of extremely poor health. He did not again engage in union
activity of any kind until about October 1940, when he applied to RaY
TDLANDSON and had his membership reinstated, Thereafter for five weeks
he worked for UMW as an organizer in small, independent mines around
Springfield, commonly known as "trucking" mines. During this time he
expressed himself strongly against JOHN L. LOWIS' failure to come out
in support of President ROOSEVELT prior to the national election. As a
result of this HINDALRSN was advised by District 12 that his application
for the renewal of his membership had been disapproved, notwithstanding the
fact that he had already been on the payroll for some five weeks and had a
certificatc from the wmion as a paid organizer,
In view of HINDM.RSH's inactivity in connection with wmion mtters
during the pertinent period he was unable to furnish any probative infor-
mation, other than the signed statement hereinafter quoted, 45 a matter
ef record, MR. HINDM:RSH makes a good appearance, is forceful and it is
believed that he would make a better than average witness. He is very
cooperative in connection with instant matter.
