After the mine crenad Bohannon told us in the Redman's hell on Monroe St., in Springfield, Til., "that if we joined to UM! that they could get a contract in 2 weeks. I had heard chet ay (phonetic) hed boon in the hospital had beer beaten up and Iom sure thet PA did not dc it. I also sow (PHONETIC) on the stroot and he seid he had a fight at the mi 6 one y. He wos bleeding and had just come from the mine ond he me on his woy to PMA office to report it. Wo ono ever threatened me to join over. I was working canpany work ao no one bothered me then. Thore wos a dead line of going cver to UMW by Jan- vary 16, 1941 ond I finally signed up ond then next month NLRB had another eloction at the Amory. J had to sign up otherwise I would not hive o job. Some one hod marked on o pit car with chelk that oftor January 16, 1941 thore would be nc more PMA and I belicved that and I knew that things might happen sc I signed up with UM. - 397 =
