"I started working for Mine B in about and at that time I was
a member of the Progressive union since “JI ha en working at Peabody #5.
I have never attended many of the unionametings and so I don't have any ©
information as to why the mine went on strike. I went to work on the
day of the strike and worked that whole doy a digger. When
I came home that day nobody told me there was a e and in fact I got
up the next morning & waited for the men to pick. me up to go to work.
when the men didn't come for me I went far a walk and saw some miners who

"I remember that after the strike I signed a petition at Froyressive
union hall to go down to work. I think I sijmed some other petitions.
After the strike I heard that some of the .rogressive men were spies for
the United. I do not know the names of any of the men who were supposed
to be spies, .
"I never vent to the win. while it was shut down and never was in
the picket line. I voted in the election of Dee. 1937 and as far as TI
was concerned everythinz went along fine.
"J went back to work at the mine in 1939 when I got a letter telling
me to come back to work. I went back to work and took uo my old job. I
joined the U. HK. %. a couple of months before the election at the mine in
February in 1941. J joined the U. M. W. union because I thou,ht all the
rest were joining up and I didn't want to lose my job. Nobody even told
