NTERV IR =ITH nT went to Ming Bto picket to protect my job and no
one forced me to go there at all and I never heard of
continued anyone being forced to go there. The strike ws very
quiet for those 2 months and there wasn't any fights
there thit I know of and we were just protecting the property.
WEarly thet morning I was at the mine on that strike and the
Lirshall cate to me and took my name and then save me a subpoena and then
T went home. None of us complained at all after the Marshall told us we
would have to set off the property and we all left peacably and there were
no fights or anything like that. I was at the mine about one-half of the
timc durinz the strike.
"I Did not hear anything about the attempt to onen the mine in
Dec. of 1937, did not go to the mine at that time.
"I Voted in the first NLRB election voting for the PMA. This
election was by secrcct ballot and so far as I know was held in an honest
manner, I voted for PRA becinse that wes the ynian oraoniz gxtion at tre mins

at that time. Iwas alwoys well satisfied with the way they ran things.
"I did not herr anythins ~bout the attempt to open the mine
in Jin. 1938 and did not go to the mine a; that tine.
"I recall nothinc unusual during the period from Jan. 1938 and
the time the mine onened, curing most of this time I was on the WPA .
and wes not payine much attention to what ts coine on in connection with
the mine. .
then the mine reopened in 1939 I recieved a letter from the
mine to come back and go to work. reported for work understanding at the
time thit I wis to be paid the regular Tllinsis wipe rate. I went back
to work that same morning working as always as a Company, man. When I
went bick to work Ag one asked-mén whether I belonged to the Progressive
or the UM’ 2nd so far as I know n> one else wis asked. I still have in
my possossion the letter recicved telling me to go back to work and of
the stipulation between the Bine "3 Cacl fo. and the Union, which provided
for our return to work. ae
"about 4 or 6 months after my return to work I joined the UHY
I joined this Union at that time because I felt this was the way the mJjroity
was goin’. No one threatened me and I dont know of anyone who was threatened .
a or beaten _ I did hear gossip around the mins about some men having been.
I did not at that tine care which Union I belonged to. TI herd not state-
ments on the port of the manarement as to which Union they wanted the men
in the mine to belong tos I never saw any person favored by the minige-
rent beciuse of the Union to which they belonged, I ws troated the
