Re: Report of Special Agent JANES FREW, at Washington,
ril 6, 1949. On page nine of this report it is noted that T-5
eould furnish no information concerning ROBERT HE. RAY. It is
also noted that RENO named RAY WARNER as one of the persons who super- —
vised his Communist Party activities in Washington, and that WARNER'S
Party name was ROBERT BE, RAY.
| It is the recollection of i Agent H. H. FINZEL,
now assigned to this office, and who handled at Washington, during
1947--1948, that this informant mentioned an Individual named WARNER
as a person active in the early formation of the group which subsequeatly
became the UNITED FEDE°AL WORKERS OF AMERICA, and who attended meetings
on Eleventh Street when WILLIAM ALLEN was organizing the Communists in
Government service, 1935=-1938.
It is possible that ene WARNER mentioned af
might well be identical with RAY WARNER (ROBERT &. RAY). rce
report does not indicate whethe was questioned as to knowledge
of RAY WARNER but only concerning ROBERT RAY. If this has not already
be e, therefore, it is requested tha be recontacted concern-
ing fenowladze as to the present whereabouts of RAY WARWER.
Reference report also indicated that SOPHIA MINKIN |
may have come to Philadelphia around 1938, and may have married the editor
of The Pilot (MMU). If the “ashington Field Office can further identify
this editor, the Philadelphia Office will be in a position to locate for
interview the former SOPHIA MINKIN as to the present whereabouts of ROBERT
E. RAY (WARNER). ,
