Mr. Hoover gaid the Cohn story should not have been an exclusive
story to the Star and that if it is not used in the Sunday Morning
Star a release should be gotten up a release that can be given out
the first thing Monday morning for all of the papers. It should be
given to Colonel Gates to be given out.
Mr. Quign advised that Special Agent Brice is departing this afternoon
by plane to hia home in Oklahoma City for an emergency appendicitis
operation. — ;
Mr. Quinn advised that Whitley had called from New York and stated
that Norma Abrams, with the New York Daily News, claims to be a life
long friend of the attorney who is now representing Hauptmam, named
Lebovits. She stated that she has been talking to Lebovitz about his
participation in the case and his interview with Hauptmam and that
he is anxious to have someone present at these interviews who is thoro-
ughly familiar with the case. Mis Abrams said she has suggested to
him that he have an agent of the Bureau present, and wonders what the
Bureau would think of this. Mr. Hoover said absolutely NO. The Bureau
ia out of the case and should satay out of it.
Mr. Quinn stated Mr. Tamm received a telephone call from Mr. Reed
this morning concerning sone difficulty which has arisen in thé Becon-
struction Finance Corporation. Mr. Tamm has referred this matter to ©
the Washington Field Office for attentiop.
Mr. Quinn advised of a call from Mr. Snyder of the Anti-Trust Division
relative to thé Major 011 Companies, Anti-Trust matter, requesting
the assistance of an Agent of the Chicago office; that Mr. Tame told
Mr. Snyder that the Chicego office had been instructed to conduct any
investigation requested; that all he had to do wes to contact the
Special Agent in Charge and mske known their desires,
Mr. Quinn advised of a call from Congressmam Heneock of North Carolina
who edvised of a young man who left his home in Oxford, North Carolina
end who was found dead in Nevada; that the people in Oxford are some-—
what concerned about the matter and that he, the Congreseman, was
wondering if we could help them; that Mr. Tamm told the person calling
that there was no indication of a Federal violatién; that the Congressman
was requested to direct a letter to Mr. Hoover setting forth details.
¥r. Quinn advised of instructiona issued to Mr. Ladd concerning the
assigning of employees to Special Assistants.
