Mr. Quinn advised My. Hoover at Now York, by uy telephone, way oe
had told Mr, Stanley thia morning where Mr. Hoover is, and Mr. Stanley's
words weres "What - - ~ are we going to do to get him out fishing".
Mr. Quinn advised that he had contacted Colonel Lincoln and Mr.
Baker. He further stated that Mr. John Keith is out this morning - he had
a bad cold - and so he had Agent Hickey, in charge of the office, go down to
see Garnett, who told Hickey that the Senate Committee had certified to him 4
a brief containing a possible perjury case; that he wanted a check-up made . /
on Mr. L. RYfiilder, Chairman of the Executive Board of thg Gulf Industries,
and elso Mr.,Calvin, Secretary and Treasurer of the, Metal Trades De tment,
American Federation of Labor; also, a sworn statement from Mr.

Hoover stated what he has in mind is, when we investigate, we make an invest—
igation, and as he understands this request it is merely desired that we see
certain people, and no other persons. Mr. Quinn stated that we had not re-
ceived the brief from the Committee. Mr. Hoover stated what he had in mind
is he does not think that we should be restricted - if we are going to make an
investigation, we should go into the matter, and not just see certain persons.
Mr. Quinn stated he told Hickey to wait until we received certification from
Mr. Stanley for the proceedings there, make a complete review of it, and then
we would select an Azent to handle the same. Mr. Hoover said we will wait _un-
til we receive the bri ief, of course, & nd then sees Whether the things G Garnet¥
wants us to do would be entirely complete, and if so, all right; but ifother
things should be done we should inform him that the things he has requested
are not complete and if we are to proceed in this matter, we are going to do
